Rwanda’s conservation efforts were still in full play as the country prepared for full re-opening of the sector. Over 30 Rhinos where introduced making Akagera national park a home to the Big Five. Now that Rwanda is fully open to tourism and all parks are open for visit, a number of activities have been introduced in Akagera and one of them in Hot Air balloon safari. Hot air balloon safaris in Akagera Park allow tourists to see and have a bird eyes view of this beautiful park – Akagera – with plenty of animals and scenic sites.
The hot air balloon in Rwanda is managed by Royal balloon safaris which runs two balloons that carry an average number of 4 to 6 people. The balloons fly high upto 1000m above the parks scenic savannah landscapes that are home to the Big Five (Buffaloes, leopards, rhinos, Elephants and Lions) and other wildlife life. Balloon safaris will cost USD 250 for Rwanda residents and USD 450 per person for None residents.

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera from Kigali
At 8am, our guide picks you up from your hotel in Kigali to start your 3 days Akagera safari. Drive to transfer to Akagera national park. Akagera national park in just 2 and half hours away from Kigali. On Arrival, you will go for a game drive in the park and then retire at your hotel. Overnight at your hotel.
Budget: Akagera Game lodge
Moderate: Ruzizi tented camp
Luxury: Magashi Camp.
Day 2: Balloon Safari.
At Mid-morning you will go for a balloon safari which will take 1 hour and this will reward you with scenic views of wildlife, and lakes and Rivers. Later in the afternoon, you will go for a boat ride on Akagera River. The ride gives you an opportunity to spot a number of water loving animals, like hippos and crocodiles and so much more. Later you will return to your lodge,
Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali.
At 10am, you will depart Akagera to drive back to Kigali. The drive will take you 2 and half hours arriving in the afternoon. End of Tour.
