Detailed Itinerary

Day 1, Kigali city tour, transfer to Musanze

At around 8 am, begin a short Kigali city tour with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial and other selected city sites depending on time. Later in the afternoon, drive to Musanze, formerly Ruhengeri, near Volcanoes National Park, where you will prepare for the next day’s activities. The drive from Kigali to the lodge takes you through Rwanda’s rolling hills and scenic countryside. Dinner and overnight at your selected lodge. Day 2, Gorilla trekking, Iby’Iwacu cultural village

Breakfast is served early because gorilla trekking starts with a briefing at the park headquarters around 7 am, with the trek itself beginning at 8 am. You will hike through the forest in search of a habituated gorilla family and, once found, spend 1 hour observing, studying, and photographing them. After returning from the forest, continue to Iby’Iwacu cultural village, one of the best-known community visits in the area, where you can learn about Rwandan traditions, beliefs, and customs and enjoy local dance performances before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Accommodation: Same lodge as Day 1.

Day 3, Start Mount Karisimbi hike

Have breakfast very early, pack your lunch, and report to Kinigi park headquarters for briefing and registration for the hike. Then begin the ascent of Mount Karisimbi with ranger guides and porters. The trail passes through forest and alpine vegetation as you climb toward the overnight camp. Mount Karisimbi is the highest mountain in Rwanda and one of the highest peaks in the Virunga range, so this is a demanding trek that requires a good level of fitness. You will stop around 3,500 metres for the overnight camping stage and prepare for the summit push the following morning.

Day 4, Summit Mount Karisimbi, descend to lodge

In the morning, continue the hike to the summit of Mount Karisimbi. Once at the top, take time to enjoy the scenery across the Virunga landscape and, on a clear day, look out toward the active volcano Nyiragongo. After the summit experience, begin the descent back down the mountain. The descent is easier than the climb, and later you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 5, Transfer back to Kigali

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali. If you have a flight the same day, your driver guide will transfer you directly to the airport. This marks the end of your 5-day Rwanda gorilla trek and Mount Karisimbi hike.
