Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: City tour and drive to Ruhengeri.

At 8am you will go for a city tour to visit a few historical places in Kigali like the Kigali genocide memorial centre. Get first hand information about the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. There are number sites you can always choose from. Later in the afternoon drive to transfer to Musanze former Ruhengeri near volcanoes National park to prepare for activities the next day. The drive to Volcanoes takes you through gently rolling hills with extremely beautiful scenery right from the city to the lodge where you will be spending your night.

Day 2: Go for gorilla tracking and a cultural tour

Breakfast will be served early, therefore you will have breakfast at 6am. At 7am, you will transfer to the park headquarters for briefing. The gorilla tracking starts at 8 am and you will be hiking along different routes, searching for the gorillas.  When you meet the gorillas, you will be given an hour to watch, study and take their pictures. Later you will walk out of the jungle and go for the  Ib’yiwacu cultural village tour. This is the most popular cultural tour in the area. Whilst visiting the community, you will learn a lot about Rwandese culture, beliefs and customs. You may even be entertained by some traditional dancers before you return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight.

Day 3: Start Mount Karismbi Hike Today.

You will have breakfast very early and then carry packed lunch in your backpack. Go for briefing at the Kinigi park headquarters and also register for the hike. Through the forest you will start your journey with a ranger guide and porters who will be showing you the trails Mt. Karisimbi. Hiking Karisimbi is a strenuous j as it is the fifth highest mountain in Africa. Therefore, it requires a level of fitness if you are to make it to the top.  You will have a break when you get half way your journey at about 3500 metres high and that where you spend your night and prepare dinner from.

Day 4: Hike to the top of Mount Karisimbi and later descend.

In the morning, you will continue your hike up to the karisimbi top for the adventure. You will time to walk around, enjoy the beauty of the scenery and then later start your journey down the mountain.  The view is extra ordinary and if you are lucky you might spot the active volcano- Nyiragongo. Descending is pretty easy therefore you will make it to your hotel for an overnight and dinner.

Day 5; Drive back to Kigali

You will have your breakfast in the morning and then drive back to Kigali. If you have a flight that day, your driver will take you to the airport. This marks the end of your 5 days gorilla trekking and Karisimbi Hike in Rwanda.
