Detailed Itinerary
Day 1, Kigali to Akagera National Park, transfer and afternoon game drive
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali and brief you about your safari before departing for Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda. The drive takes about 2 and a half hours, with scenic views of Rwanda’s countryside along the way. You will arrive in the afternoon and enter the park for your first game drive. This afternoon game drive gives you your first chance to experience Akagera’s savannah landscape, rolling hills, and wildlife habitats. Depending on luck and animal movement, you may see elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and several bird species. Your guide will also help you look out for predators in suitable areas of the park. After the game drive, continue to your lodge for check-in, dinner, and overnight stay. Accommodation options: Budget Dereva Hotel, Mid-range Akagera Game Lodge or similar, Luxury Ruzizi Tented Lodge
Day 2, morning game drive in Akagera, afternoon boat safari on Lake Ihema
After an early breakfast, set out for a morning game drive in the Park, when wildlife is often more active. You will explore different sections of the park in search of animals such as elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, impalas, topis, and, with luck, predators such as lions or hyenas. The morning hours are ideal for photography and game viewing because the temperatures are cooler and animals are easier to spot. Later in the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari on Lake Ihema, one of the highlights of visiting Akagera National Park. The boat trip offers a different perspective of the park and is especially rewarding for bird lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. You may see hippos in the water, crocodiles along the shore, and a variety of water birds around the lake. After the boat safari, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay
Day 3, return to Kigali
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and begin your return journey to Kigali. The drive back gives you time to reflect on your Akagera wildlife experience and enjoy the scenic countryside once more. On arrival in Kigali, you will be dropped off at your hotel or at the airport, depending on your travel plans. This marks the end of your 3-Day Akagera Safari Rwanda.
