6 Days Uganda Birding Safari, Lake Mburo and Queen Elizabeth

Visit Lake Mburo National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park on this 6-day bird watching safari in Uganda. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1, Transfer from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park, Nshara Gate birding and night drive

In the morning, right after breakfast, you will drive to Lake Mburo National Park. Arrive at the park in the mid-morning hours and begin birdwatching from Nshara Gate. Watch out for species such as the Greater Blue-eared Starling, Green Wood Hoopoe, Common Scimitarbill, Lilac-breasted Roller, Trilling Cisticola, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Green Spot-flanked Barbet, and Northern Black Tit, among others. Later, have lunch and then go for a game drive along the Zebra Track as you continue searching for birds. In the evening, go for a spotlight game drive to watch out for nocturnal animals such as leopards and jackals. Budget Eagles Nest Hotel, Mid-range Lake Mburo Safari Lodge, Luxury Mihingo Lodge.

Day 2, Nature walk and birding in Lake Mburo, Kigambira Loop drive

In the morning right after breakfast, go for a nature walk in the park in search of birds. During the walk, you may encounter a range of wetland and savannah species. Watch out for Red-headed Lovebird, Black-collared Barbet, Lead-coloured Flycatcher, Green-capped Eremomela, and many more. Later in the afternoon, go for a game drive along the Kigambira Loop. Overnight at your lodge.

Day 3, Lakeside Track birding, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

In the morning right after breakfast, go for a game drive along the Lakeside Track. Watch out for birds such as the elusive shoebill, Papyrus Gonolek, Lesser and Greater Swamp Warbler, African Water Rail, Spur-winged Plover, Blue-headed Coucal, African Darter, and many more. Day 4, Kasenyi birding and game drive, Kazinga Channel boat cruise

Birding in Nyungwe Forest National ParkIn the morning before sunrise, you will wake up to a cup of tea or coffee and then, with your packed breakfast, go for a game drive and birding session in the Kasenyi area. Watch out for wildlife and plenty of birds in the area. Later in the afternoon, go for a boat ride on the Kazinga Channel, where you will see many animals as well as plenty of birds along the shores. Watch out for birds such as Pied Kingfisher, Copper Sunbird, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, widowbirds, bishops, Grey-backed Fiscal, Black-bellied Bustard, Common Buttonquail, Red-chested Sunbird, Temminck’s Courser, Black-winged Stilt, Plain-backed Pipit, African Wattled Lapwing, Spur-winged Lapwing, Martial Eagle, Black-headed Gonolek, pelicans, and more.

Day 5, Birding in Ishasha sector, tree-climbing lions

In the morning right after breakfast, drive to the Ishasha sector. Spend the day searching for birds in the area, while also watching out for the famous tree-climbing lions. Budget Ishasha Camp, Mid-range Ishasha Safari Lodge, Luxury Ishasha Wilderness Camp.

Day 6, Return to Kampala via the Equator

In the morning right after breakfast, drive back to Kampala. Visit the Equator en route and continue watching out for birds along the way as you transfer. This marks the end of your 6-day Uganda birdwatching safari.
