Begin with a Kigali city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which provides important historical context about Rwanda. After the city tour, have lunch in Kigali before continuing north toward Volcanoes National Park in the Musanze region. The drive takes about 2.5 to 3 hours and passes through Rwanda’s rolling hills and rural landscapes, making it a scenic and enjoyable transfer. On arrival, check in at your lodge and take time to relax. Depending on arrival time, you may take a short walk around the lodge or nearby village to get a feel of the area before dinner. Dinner and overnight near Volcanoes National Park. Overnight options, Budget: Kinigi Guest House, Mid-range: Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel, Luxury: Bisate Lodge / Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge
Day 2, Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Wake up early, have breakfast, and prepare for your gorilla trekking experience. Carry a packed lunch and drinking water before heading to the park headquarters for briefing and group allocation. After the briefing, transfer to the trailhead and begin your guided trek into the forest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. The trek can take between 2 and 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas and terrain conditions. Once you locate the gorillas, you will spend one hour observing them. Watch their behavior, feeding patterns, interaction with young ones, and movement within the group. This is one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences in Africa. After the trek, return to the starting point and transfer back to your lodge. Spend the rest of the afternoon resting after the trek or enjoying the lodge surroundings. Dinner and overnight at your selected lodge.
Day 3, Return to Kigali and Departure
After breakfast, check out of your lodge and begin the drive back to Kigali. The journey takes about 2.5 to 3 hours through scenic countryside. Depending on your flight schedule, you may stop briefly in Kigali for lunch, coffee, or souvenir shopping before continuing to the airport. Arrive at Kigali International Airport in time for your departure flight. End of your 3-day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari.
