Detailed Itinerary
Day 1, Arrival in Kigali, transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by AA Safaris and Tours representative for a short briefing about your safari. If you arrive early, you may go on a Kigali city tour to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial and the national museum. Later, continue on the 2.5-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park. Overnight stay at Kinigi Guest House or Muhabura Guest House [budget], Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel [mid-range], or Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge or Bisate Lodge [luxury].
Day 2, Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Have an early breakfast, then transfer to the park headquarters before 7 am for briefing and gorilla family allocation. During the briefing, the rangers will explain the gorilla trekking rules and prepare you for the trek. You will then head into the forest in search of the gorillas. The guided trek can be challenging, but it is also one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences in Rwanda. Once you find the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend 1 hour with them while observing their behaviour and taking photographs. After the trek, return to the starting point and transfer back to your lodge for relaxation and overnight stay. For the trek, it is advisable to carry a rain jacket, walking shoes with ankle support, long trousers, and insect repellent.
Day 3, Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Today, you will go golden monkey trekking near Mount Sabyinyo in Volcanoes National Park. The trek usually takes about 2 to 4 hours, so you should return in time for lunch at the lodge. After lunch, relax at the lodge and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at the same lodge.
Day 4, Return to Kigali, city tour and departure
After breakfast, begin the drive back to Kigali. If you did not do the city tour on Day 1, you may visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial and the national museum before continuing to the airport for your onward flight. This marks the end of your 4 days Rwanda gorilla and golden monkey safari
