Detailed Itinerary

Day 1, Kigali city tour, museums, memorials, craft centres

At 9 am, begin your Kigali city tour with a visit to the Kandt Museum. After the museum, continue to the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn more about one of the most important periods in Rwanda’s history. Later, visit the former presidential palace before ending the day at local craft centres, where you can learn more about how these crafts are made and the communities behind them. Day 2, Nyanza King’s Palace, Ethnographic Museum, transfer to Nyungwe

Day 3, Tea estate experience, transfer to Gisenyi on Lake Kivu

After breakfast, visit a tea estate or tea factory and learn more about tea growing in Rwanda. See how tea is picked, processed, and prepared in the country often called the land of a thousand hills. You will also have the chance to taste locally produced tea. Later in the afternoon, drive to Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu. Day 5, Iby’Iwacu cultural village, Musanze caves, Twin Lakes

Today, visit the Iby’Iwacu cultural village to learn more about local beliefs, traditions, music, dance, and daily life. You may also learn how banana beer is traditionally made in the area. In the afternoon, continue to the Musanze caves and learn more about how volcanic activity helped shape them. Later in the evening, visit the Twin Lakes area and nearby communities for scenic views and more local interaction before returning to your lodge.

Day 6, Dian Fossey tombs, reconciliation sites, transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, visit the Dian Fossey tombs and learn more about her conservation work with mountain gorillas and the legacy she left behind in Rwanda. This is one of the most meaningful historical and conservation-related visits in the Volcanoes region. Later, begin the drive back to Kigali. On the way, you may visit the churches of Ntarama and Nyamata, as well as a millennium village, to learn more about Rwanda’s reconciliation journey over the past decades.
