Detailed Itinerary
Day 1, Transfer to Entebbe, boat to Ngamba Island, chimpanzee viewing
Depending on where you spent the previous night, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the landing site in Entebbe. If starting from Kampala, the drive takes about 45 minutes, while from Entebbe it takes around 10 to 15 minutes. On arrival at the landing site, meet the island representative for a briefing about the trip and boat transfer. You will then board a motorized boat for a 45-minute ride across Lake Victoria to Ngamba Island, arriving at around 9 am. After arrival, receive a short orientation about the island before checking into your cottage. You will then proceed to your first chimpanzee viewing session, where you can observe the chimpanzees during feeding. After lunch, spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge while enjoying birdlife and the island environment. Dinner and overnight at Ngamba Eco Lodge
Day 2, Chimpanzee enrichment experience, sunset boat cruise on Lake Victoria
Today you will take part in a chimpanzee enrichment experience designed to stimulate problem-solving and natural behaviour. These activities help support the chimps’ mental development while giving you a deeper understanding of their intelligence and behaviour. In the afternoon, go for a sunset boat cruise on Lake Victoria. During the cruise, you may see fishing villages along the shoreline and local fishermen casting their nets as the sun sets. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight
Day 3, Fishing on Lake Victoria, evening cultural dance experience
After breakfast, go for a fishing experience on Lake Victoria. This activity can take between 4 and 8 hours depending on your interest and conditions. You will try to catch Nile perch in some of the well-known fishing areas. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the evening, enjoy a cultural dance and storytelling experience around a bonfire, offering insight into local traditions and entertainment. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 4, Optional chimpanzee feeding, return to Entebbe or Kampala
Wake up to a relaxed morning on the island. You may choose to participate in another chimpanzee feeding session if available. After lunch, board the boat for your return to the mainland. On arrival, your guide will meet you and transfer you to Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala, depending on your travel plans. This marks the end of your Ngamba Island experience
