Nyungwe Forest National Park


Location and Access.

The Nyungwe national park is located in the southwest part of Rwanda covering over 970 km.

It is the biggest covered with montane rainforest a home of various primates which are already accustomed to human presence including chimpanzees, black and white colobus, mangabey, L’hoests monkeys, and unique plant species including 100 orchids, 120 butterfly species, 275endangered bird species making it a suitable destination for those that love birding.

  1. Chimpanzee tracking

The Nyungwe National Park is known to be the only place in the world where you can find more than five primate species like the Chimpanzee and Mountain monkeys, the Angolan black as well as the while colobus monkeys and this makes Nyungwe one of the greatest places that can be very useful in the boast of a unique phenomenon in primate tourism because of it has a high population of habituated primates ranging from 400 to 500 of them in just one group.

  1. Bird watching in Nyungwe

Nyungwe National Park is blessed with numerous bird species more than any other protected area found in the Albertine Rift. Therefore, for those that are very interested in birding, Nyungwe is the best to visit in Rwanda as it will provide you with an opportunity to see more species especially those whose range is restricted to the mountain forests of the Albertine Rift.

There are over 280 bird species and 27 of them are restricted to the Albertine Rift like the great blue turaco an outlandish blue, red and green bird thus making the greatest place for birding.

The best thing about Nyungwe National Park is that has also got a well maintained and rare network of nature walkways developed to enable tourists to view unique rainforest features and experiences. These walkways meander the gentle hills of the park accessing various attractions such as waterfalls and interesting over-the-canopy views.
