3 Days Uganda Vanilla and Tea Plantation Tour
This 3-day Uganda vanilla and tea plantation tour is designed for travellers who want a short agrotourism experience focused on two of western Uganda’s best-known farm products. The itinerary takes you to Fort Portal and Kibale area farms, where you learn how tea is planted, harvested, dried, and processed, and how vanilla is hand-pollinated, harvested, and prepared for extract production. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1, Kampala to Fort Portal, Kahangi Tea Estate, tea harvesting and processing
After breakfast, depart Kampala and drive to Fort Portal, a journey of about 5 to 6 hours through western Uganda. Arrive in time for lunch at your hotel. In the afternoon, visit Kahangi Tea Estate, one of the key tea-growing areas in the region. Walk through the tea fields and learn how tea is planted, maintained, and harvested. You may observe or take part in plucking tea leaves alongside workers, depending on timing. Continue to the processing section to understand how fresh leaves are dried, sorted, and prepared before reaching the final consumer. This gives a full view of the tea value chain, from field to finished product. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight. Accommodation: Mountains of the Moon Hotel

Day 2, Ndali Vanilla farm, hand pollination, harvesting, vanilla processing
After breakfast, visit Ndali Vanilla Estate for a full-day farm experience focused on vanilla production. Learn how vanilla is grown and why it requires careful management. One of the key highlights is understanding how each vanilla flower is hand-pollinated, a labour-intensive process that must be done within a short time window. Continue to learn about harvesting mature vanilla pods and the curing process, including drying and preparation before vanillin is extracted. These steps are important in producing high-quality vanilla for international markets. You will also take part in a simple hands-on activity where vanilla is used to make ice cream, giving you a direct connection between farm production and finished products. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight. Accommodation: Same hotel as Day 1.

Day 3, Kahangi Tea Estate oil extraction, farm products, return to Kampala
After breakfast, return to Kahangi Tea Estate for a broader look at farm-based production beyond tea. Learn how the estate processes additional products such as sunflower oil, castor oil, and coffee oil. This part of the visit shows how agricultural systems can create multiple value-added products from different crops. You will see how oils are extracted and handled, giving you a deeper understanding of how farms diversify income beyond a single product. After the visit, begin the journey back to Kampala, arriving in the evening. This marks the end of your 3-day Uganda vanilla and tea plantation tour.
