4 DAYS CHIMPANZEE TREKKING KIBALE FOREST AND NGAMBA ISLAND
DAY 1: TEA PLANTATION | KIBALE NATIONAL PARK
Early morning you will depart for kibale forest park for about 7 – 8 hours through masaka road to fort portal where you will see the beautiful sceneries of the Rwenzori ranges and stopover in fort-portal town for lunch then after visit the tea plantations in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains and later embark on your journey to the park. On arrival check in at the lodge for dinner and overnight Kyaninga Lodge (Luxury) / Primate Lodge (Mid-range) / Kibale Forest Camp (Budget)
DAY 2: CHIMP TREKKING | SWAMP WALK IN BIGODI WETLAND
Early morning you will have breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing before you proceed to the forest and after continue for the chimpanzee trek. This activity starts at 8:00am in search for chimpanzees as you watch how they and you will also see other primates like the olive baboons, red tailed monkeys, grey cheeked mangabeys, blue tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, l’hoest’s monkeys and as well as birds, butterflies, the forest’s flora and fauna. Return to the lodge for lunch and later go for a nature walk in bigodi swamp.
After lunch you will go in bigodi wetland for a swamp which has a better view for the monkeys, mammals like the bush pigs, mongoose, otters, bush bucks and various birds like the papyrus gonolek, white winged warbler, the great blue turaco, crowned eagle, purple breasted sunbird, brown chested alethe, African pitta and many more. Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight Kyaninga Lodge (Luxury) / Primate Lodge (Mid-range) / Kibale Forest Camp (Budget)
DAY 3: RETURN TO ENTEBBE
In the morning you will have breakfast and prepare to check out of the lodge and embark on your journey back to Entebbe through Kampala. On arrival at your hotel, you will check in at your hotel freshen up and relax or you can opt to go for a walk in Entebbe and explore more. Dinner and overnight at your hotel 2 Friends Hotel, Lake Victoria Hotel, Protea Hotel
DAY 4: NGAMBA SANCTUARY | DEPARTURE
In the morning at exactly 7:00am our tour guide will pick you for a briefing and drive you to Lake Victoria port. While at the port, you will get a speed boat to Ngamba which should about 45 minutes to reach the island. On arrival, you will spot various bird species like the African open billed stork, fish eagles, yellow billed dark, king fishers, as well as monitor lizards along the Victoria bank of the island. You will be taken to the visitors Centre for an introduction and briefing about Ngamba island chimpanzee sanctuary, its history and the different activities that take place while at the island.
You will go for breakfast while at the island and later at 11:00am you will be guided by the chimp caregiver to watch the chimpanzees feed, how they behave while they eat, how they play with each other and so on at the closest distance. You will also be taken to different Centre’s at the island like the chimp food store where they will explain how to keep the chimp food and type of foods and fruits given chimpanzees. The chimp clinic where they will take you through on how to take good care of chimps, the types of treatment and their general health. Later have lunch.
Embark on your journey in the evening, stop at the equator watch how the boat is pushed by the south and North Pole forces tending to keep in one place and then the boat engine will tend to use a little more extra energy to beat the equator line that’s if the boat tries to cross the equator. For those that want to swim, you will be given some time to enjoy the waters and later continue to the main land. Return to your hotel or Entebbe airport for your departure
