10 Days Uganda Volunteer, Marathon & Gorilla Holiday Safari

The Uganda Marathon is one of the adventure activities that takes place once a year. However there are other marathons, that are organized in celebration of certain events, like for example the Buganda King’s birthday run, the Kings coronation cerebration, runs organized by MTN and other mobile networks like airtel and for all these runs proceeds go towards improving the health services of the Uganda people for specific diseases like the Fistula, HIV/AIDS, Cancer And many more.

For those interested in running through the meandering hills of Kampala, or the lush country of side in western Uganda or even Northern Uganda. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Kampala

Arrive at the airport to meet our company representatives who will transfer you to your hotel in Kampala.  Overnight at holiday express hotel.

Day 2: Acclimatization Days – Transfer to Masaka Equator

Today you will transfer to the Masaka to visit the equator for a chance to see if water really drains in opposite directions either side of the line. Take lessons in art, culture and language before you start exploring the local villages with the local stuff of the Uganda marathon team. Today you will eat and live like a local and also connect with regular Ugandans.

Day 3 and 4: See Your Legacy Days

Today you will start you legacy by visiting some of the projects that you choose to support. Help to build a piggery that supports the elderly in the region. You will also work with disadvantaged entrepreneurs to develop business, plans, you will also paint a play ground for the disadvantaged school or kick start or of the many projects in the area.

These days give you an opportunity to see how your 1 dollar can impact a community and the people involved. And on these days, you get to meet the people whose lives have changed due to your contribution. Thank You.

Day 5: Kids Run Wild

Today you along with the Uganda marathon will host a kids run – KidsRunWild . On this day, schools in Masaka are invited  and also orphanages and  projects to the liberation square for an experience of the feeling at the Finish line. Today you will run the event, join in, handout prizes that include medals and other learning materials like books, pens, etc.

Day 6 – Friday Unconference & Pasta Party

Today you will need to rest the legs in preparation for Tomorrow and thus the Uganda Marathon have put o a number of talks and sessions with the leaders of the local projects, such that you learn more about where your money goes.

It is a relaxing day for you to learn more about living in Uganda, the project work and how the Uganda marathon supports these projects. Learn more on how you can get involved. Later you will go for a pool party in town. Chill by the poolside and rest your legs before a pasta party and carbohydrates buffet feast in the evening.  You will also get a pre-race briefing from the race and medical team and then go for an early rest before tomorrow’s action.

Day 7 – Race day!

“There are few more awe-inspiring sights in the world than seeing the sun rising over Africa, just the thought of it sends tingles down our spines…today, you will run under that sun, today you will kick off a new era for Masaka town, today, you will become a superstar,” The Uganda Marathon.

The Race starts at exactly 7am and after for the next hours you will run along-side other runners in Africa’s most amazing scenery. Along the route, there will be locals and children cheering on and encouraging you. A race of wonders one that is not easily forgotten.  At the finish line, there will be a huge free party for the entire town before returning to the Athlete’s village for a massage, BBQ and a party.

Day 8:  Transfer to Bwindi

In the morning right after breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Masaka to transfer to Bwindi. The drive will take 7 hours arriving in the afternoon. Overnight at Gorilla Mist camp.

Day 9: Gorilla Trek

Before 7 am, after breakfast you will transfer to the park headquarters for briefing and then allocated a gorilla family to trek. Along the different trails the search for the gorillas will start and once you meet them you will be allowed to spend 1 hour following them and taking pictures. Later on you will return to the starting point. Trekking time ranges between 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. We therefore provide packed lunch and water for you. If you need porters, they are available at the point of entry into the park at USD 20. Another way to give back to the local communities close to the park.

Day 10: Transfer back to Kampala

In the morning right after breakfast, you will drive to transfer back to Kampala, The drive will take 7 to 9 hours arriving in the later afternoon hours. Drive to proceed to the airport to catch your onward flight back home. End of Tour.
